自我介紹A brief introduction of yourself：
I work on placing stories into different medias in different, styles and image. They are not direct translation of a story, but a personal understanding or view of that story.
In this workshop I am using Taiwan story telling.(or from Tribes in Taiwan) for my work. They have many similarities to Japanese story telling as well as many stories between Chinese tribes and Taiwan.The origin of these stories may be difficult to be specified, but the connection we have in it inspired me to make this work.

作品說明Statement :

The artist and the visitors of this workshop participated in this work to make a “new story” out of traditional folk stories of Taiwan and China. The view of the window is the images made from each participants, which becomes the illustration of this story. Participants where asked to choose several sentences they have read and paste it on to the paper scroll. These texts written in different languages may not make sense but transforms into another story.
Before coming to Taiwan, I thought about the relationship between Taiwan and Japan, and the complicated history of Taiwan, which is the reason why I chose Taiwanese folk stories. But as I worked, I had to put myself into this situation because I felt lost. This forced me to write the words of Japanese folk stories with my own hand.
The action of breaking traditional stories into pieces caused a dilemma for me but traditions changes and new traditions are made by the pieces of the old traditions.
This work is my feeling toward my country Japan, where traditions seems to survive in an awkward way or may hardly exist.I hope you will join this work to continue making our new history by our own hands.

我喜歡以身邊的素材創作，主要興趣是材質和造型。
以往比較多使用樹脂，因為它的可塑性、透明、變化很廣泛，容易和其他材料結合，做立體或平面的造型。現在想多多利用更生活化的素材，利用俯拾皆有的東西與生活做更緊密的結合。

自我介紹A brief introduction about yourself:

Born in the United States, Isak Immanuel grew up in the contrasting environments of the mesas of Taos, New Mexico and the ghettoes of East Los Angeles. As an Interdisciplinary Artist and dancer he has taken part in numerous collaborative works and is presently engaged in a series of solo work internationally entitled Floor of Sky (Clothes x Sun). He began the Floor of Sky projects in 2003 to examine the state of spirit and body in a constantly shifting city/time/landscape; from the immediacies of civic identity to the distances of myth, it is an approach to an intimate and civic dialectic with a hybrid of images, movement, sound, texture and light. Work has recently been done in Taipei, Seoul, Prague/Tabor, Berlin, Paris and San Francisco.

作品說明Statement :

As a choreographer and interdisciplinary artist I am concerned with a question of the sociological framework of image and movement: Signs and images fill our bodies and psychic space, the constraints of citizenship often urges insanity, which direction is right, left, forward, backward is a new question every day. In this, a new image and movement unfolds.

Apart of the Hweilan International Artist Workshop I am developing another layer of a work first begun at Taipei International Artist Village in spring of 2006. This is site-specific work that engages clothes found discarded in the streets/public space of the city. Clothes have been collected, photographed, and will be used as image, movement research, and as “costume”. This work is entitled Yifu X Sun.
This work is in collaboration with Yin-Ru Chien (performance, text), Iming (performance, vocal), Meng-yeh Chou (ephemeral writing on site).

2006的十一月下午某陣風吹入創作營的辦公室，我努力思索著如何把自己用中國字介紹出去，在那當下，風拂著臉來，吹催著思緒，轉而幻想，風的路線，在她夾帶中的味道可以知道絲絲線索，在腦內形成故事中的種種畫面，音樂是布吉納法索BoBo山區裡的某個古老音樂家族所演奏的，非鄒人的自由，較能表現風的節奏，但視覺呢，我該如何用視覺告訴所有人納美麗的路線，用畫得似乎無法傳達氣流的無形，和味道的純情，或許搞個裝置吧，那較接近風想傳達的。自從搬到風城後，對她充滿了特別的情懷。

作品說明Statement : 生命從每一段【關係】的起點，以【塑造經驗】重組人事物的發生，所有的萬事萬物都只是媒介。我們所傳達的創作，唯有留在你我心中的才最真實。

1. 送給腳踏車店的一首詩

緣起：腳踏車店的老闆敘述，舊酒場以前有許多日本人工作在此，幾經多年已荒廢的酒廠，有好一段時間長年大門深鎖，誰也不得其門而入，只見遠從日本來的老客人，一整天靜靜久立於大門前，默默瞻望，淚流幽幽。

2. 一家子的幸福----老材房小吃

吃過老材房的台式小吃，我為這個幸福的滋味感動，在牆上貼著蝴蝶，讓祝福洋溢著。

窯（一）
想硿一個窯，找來最方便的水泥塊當材料，窯完成了，火 升好了，才驚覺！若擲入蕃薯將被水泥壓碎，只好再製一窯。



窯（二）
借來了鋤頭挖土，窯成、火燼、蕃薯香，還是古法滋味好。



窯（三）
決定留一個土窯給妳，讓土地的力量，泥土的芬芳，持續下去。

自我介紹A brief introduction of yourself：
一直以來，我以布料作為我的主要創作材料，主要是服裝造形的設計，直到六年前我從台北般到花蓮居住，在這裡，我的人生也有了一些變化。我開始試著探究人與自然及自身與社區環境之間的關係，我想要尋找一種質感，一種可以簡單的開始、一種可以讓我重新與大地產生更親密關連的材質。我生活在這裡，接觸這裡的自然環境、大山大海、還有部落與原住民的文化，因此我開始嘗試以南島民族文化中已經在台灣消失很久的天然樹皮纖維材質來創作，我最主要想表達的通常不是它所呈現的形式，而是在身體的勞動及持續的敲打中，我內心所獲得的平靜，這像是一種修行的儀式，這裡面也包涵著原住民的自然生存哲學，這讓我對生命有不一樣的看法。

遊走於過去與現在的弔詭
浸滯在脫軌的靜謐裡
試圖將人與環境之間產生的差異與衝突拋出，異化的物質是扭轉的矛盾，關係的銜接是線性的結點，建構此在與時間產生的對話。

自我介紹A brief introduction of yourself：I am a French born. London based artist working with a large variety of materials.


作品名稱 Title：“Made in Taiwan”

作品說明 Statement :

In my work I usually subvert different familiar materials and forms in a way that they become enigmatic or otherworldly.
As a flanneur in the streets of Hualien, I couldn’t help noticing how readily available this coloured tricolore plastic sheeting was and became immediately interested in using it. In Europe, it is imported from China and used as cheap bags or for covering scaffolding on building sites.
During this workshop I wanted to create a sculpture that played with the throwaway nature of this material in contrast with the representation of a higher, more obscure polar opposite form of technology. The result is a piece composed of connecting cylinders that come together to resemble an engine reactor or even a piece of space craft. As well as being quite literally “made in Taiwan”, I wanted the title to refer to the origin of the material and to the association the place has with technological production and the manufacture of sewn goods.

My work is sight specific. I develop each piece taking into account the environment , poetics and landscape of it. Being in Hualien now is making my work at my interest which lies in my status as a foreigner in Taiwan , and my experience of the other and being the others. The effect of being in a dillesent environment , landscape , sound and taste. This later is super imposed on my personal history ,which I think is going to be nurtured for this experience.

For this “growing” dinner party, I used different edible seeds and germs from Taiwan and Europe. I planted the seeds in the shape of Taiwanese flowers and crockery. The seeds will grow as long as the duration of the party.

I see my work as performance art and tableau vivant , involving dance performance , films and technology. It expresses , social , philosophical , and political thought the mediums stated above, creating a stimulating and challenging experience for the audience. Being able to come up with new and interesting approaches for my work to communicate with the audience is what drives my work forward. It is perhaps for this reason that I became exited by the idea of creating works that fuse Dance with multi media and technology, from dance film to motion sensor.The dance genres Iuse,combine’s influences of Raqs sharqi,(Arabic Dance tradition) Contemporary, physical theatre and Ballet.This mixture creates a unique genre of dance that is both an honour and challenge to develop.
The foundations to my work lie in my passion to explore a range of ideas and concepts. These include;
*An understanding of the body on multiple layers, the first and most important being the inner architecture of the body, that communicates with other spatial architecture; this could be, a room,
a hall, a building or a filed. The second layer being the senses that are the primal interactive sensors.*Finding new ways trough which I can give the emotional state a physical expression an extra dimension through space and time via the of the ,”interactive visual”. The use of visual has many intentions such as to enforce the dance ,or to go in opposition to it,or to give accumulated dimension.

The work that I have created within the Hualian, international workshop is looking at the study of space and Time, within the context of the other. Time takes another form and space takes another meaning, both of them loose their habitual references. Therefore within my physical performance Little red riding Wolf my movements take on another angle and I bring in a choreography of machinery, the cars become some of the dancers, and the derelict building becomes a breathing element. Additionally to my performance I felt the need to change the way I look at the body hence my installation the White House. “Where the body gets dissected and change gravity!

Since 1996 I’ve porticepated in many local and international festivals, having presented my concept of idea about the New Ufopia.I'm married, have 2 daughters.

This sculpture acts as a maquette for the work of art that is planet Earth. It is really beautyful but without our love and warmth this powerful Art object Earth could easily turn into a charred Monument T o Global Tragedy. Previously I was scared to lose the fatherland now I am afraid to lose the Planet which has lost its virginity already.

Although I was born in Austria,I was brought up, with a different background. Feeling a stranger in Austria, but not really having experienced England as a home, questions of home giving a sense of security, and the illusions of the ideas of „home“, and a „homeland“ are often themes in my work. Usually the sculpures I make are very precicely worked, due to the drawings they derive from. In Hualien, I want to experiment, try to make something fast, referring to the surrounding, and working with people from the area.
I twant to make something, which will probably only be possible in this surrounding, in this space under these conditions.

“Pooped” humorously questions conventional sculpture and its use of materials.
The everyday materials used for this object were found in stores around the winery of Hualien. The pink fabric is generally utilized for making sunblinds, and can be found everywhere. The piece was sewn in the shop were the textile was bought with assistance from the artist. The orange hose was principally chosen because of its bright colour, and its extensive everyday-ness. The colours in this piece refer to the kaleidoscope of colours that are used extensively in advertising, shop decoration and clothes worn around Hualien, pink and orange seemingly being the two main ingredients.

2006洄瀾國際藝術家創作營

一、在地藝術家與英三角藝術信託合作，是由創作者運作的創作營　
本創作營由花蓮縣文化環境創造協會與英國「三角藝術信託」（Triangle Arts Trust）聯合運作，為國際藝術創作營、藝術家進駐網絡之一。1982年，安東尼‧卡羅爵士（Sir Anthony Caro）以及羅勃‧洛德（Robert Loder）在美國紐約開始著手首次三角創作營，1985在南非如辛巴威（Zimbabwe）、波扎那（Botswana）、那米比亞（Namibia）、莫三鼻克（Mozambique）、尚比亞（Zambia）、塞內加爾（Senegal）、肯亞（Kenya）、烏干達（Uganda）、奈及利亞（Nigeria）以及在南美的牙買加（Jamaica）、古巴（Cuba）、澳洲（Australia）、英國（UK）、中國（China）、孟加拉（Bangladesh）等，我們的任務就是在擴張創作營的網絡，加強國際藝術家交流互動。花蓮已是這個國際創作營動力的一環，也是台灣當代藝術家在國內與國際藝術實質交流的定點之一。

二、本創作營是異文化藝術實驗工廠，鼓舞創作者冒險和勇於實驗
洄瀾國際藝術家創作營的策劃理念在於這類型的創作營不是一個制式的組織，它在推動一個國際藝術家創作、藝術家進駐、藝術工作室之網絡，讓藝術家能夠一起工作，交換觀念和經驗。這種交換所帶來的刺激是由不同文化背景的藝術家，在公開的情境中一起工作的結果，這裡沒有主題，沒有美學教訓。在短時間內，強大的能量鼓舞創作者冒險和勇於實驗，這些經驗在自己工作室中從不會發生的。這個創作營吸引有經驗的藝術家，彼此互動，積極從事藝術事業。就社區而言，透過創作營、藝術家進駐、開放工作室、展覽，讓民眾有機會看到各種不同類型的藝術實驗，以及洞悉藝術創作過程。
本創作營是一個藝術實驗工廠，主要目的在於：
（1）透過一個有助於藝術探索的環境，鼓舞各類藝術創作的更大可能之實驗。
（2）以亞洲、環太平洋、非洲、歐美等，特別是我們鄰近國家的藝術社群，擴大、拉長充滿活力的新連線與網絡。
（3）培育一種在公眾領域中，討論不同文化背景藝術家的不同藝術創作脈絡之氣氛。
（4）創造屬於該地區的文化空間，以及具文化產值之動力基礎。
（5）提供文件給教育與國際網絡，製作有品質的目錄解說光碟及其他各種媒體之文件。

三、創作營環境分析：花蓮市舊酒廠
花蓮舊酒廠現址位於花蓮市中心，日治時代的花蓮酒廠設立於1925年，1988年已遷場至美崙工業區。市區內的舊酒廠由於長年閒置，早已被遺忘，市民只是視而不見地繞過周圍而已。近五年來文建會閒置空間再利用以及地方文化館的政策，使城市中的死亡空間透過各種社會力量，逐漸舊恢復它的活力。

花蓮舊酒廠與台灣其他的舊酒廠不一樣之處，在於它有四棟美麗的木構日式建築，極富歷史與人文情調。其他尚有高挑空間廠房適合藝術創作、創意文化以及人民自由廣場，本創作營的進駐可以扮演舊酒廠再利用的先鋒。

四、經費來源、空間概況、活動內容：
本創作營經費主要來自行政院文化建設委員會、東海岸文教基金會、張啟華文教基金會、花蓮縣文化局及其他則有私人小額贊助。本創作營提供藝術家所有的花費，包括藝術家往返花蓮交通費、在花蓮的食宿生活費、材料費200美金等。本創作營為非盈利之活動，以藝術家創作為目的，展覽開幕期間不收門票，完全開放給民眾。
創作營內設有餐廳、酒吧、討論室、聯誼廳等。主辦單位提供腳踏車、營帳、基本工具、電腦、影像剪接設備、木雕、石雕機具等。創作營期間，本地藝術家盡力協助外地藝術家購買材料或尋找自然材料，而有關社區民眾參與的部分主辦單位則將於創作營期間擇日開放民眾參訪，以期維持藝術家創作時之空間寧靜與民眾參與之間的平衡，但是，如果創作者的作品是由社區居民直接參與，則不在此限。
藝術家與工作人員進駐創作15天，第15天下午2點開始展出，進駐期間，除了創作之外，晚上有系列創作論壇與演講，藝術家必須準備個人作品簡介，幻燈片，影帶或光碟等。演講部分，我們邀請國內外藝術家、策展人、評論家、表演者等，增加對話的其他可能。

2006 HweiLan International Artists Workshop

Introduction

The HweiLan International Artists' Workshop ( HIAW ) was established in 2003. A Triangle mode workshop, HIAW is an artist-run, non-profit-making initiative unique to Taiwan. HIAW provides a creative arena for artists anxious to create projects open to challenges demanding experiment, co-operation and exchange of ideas. The HweiLan Workshop removes artists geographically and conceptually from their usual studio environment and brings them together to work in a way that is mutually beneficial, contributing to a developing international dialogue that explores our cultural and professional differences whilst celebrating our commonality.
During 2003, 2005 artists from Taiwan, Botswana, UK, USA, Japan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Armenia, India, Hong Kong, Egypt, Argentina, Georgia, Bulgaria, Russia, Trinidad took part, working in a variety of disciplines: time-based, photographic, film/video, new media, installation, performance, painting and sculpture.
The HIAW aims to:
1.Encourage the more daring experimental form of art creation by providing an environment inductive t o art exploration.
2.Establish and extend a professional network of artists from countries worldwide in order to revitalize of their respective art communities.
3.Cultivate an atmosphere for genuine dialogues between the artists and the public wishing to express t heir various cultural backgrounds and art forms.
4.Provide quality DVDs and other media documents for educational purposes and for world wide networking.

Location

The HIAW will take place at the old winery in downtown Hualien, Taiwan. It has now been renamed, “the Creative Cultural Park“. Built during the Japanese occupation in 1925, the old winery has been vacant for fifteen years. The Culture council of Taiwan has recently renovated the four timber, Japanese style buildings. The other building, a tall concrete structure which is totally suitable for an art workspace should be finished by next summer.
Food and beverages will be served in our restaurant and bar. In addition, work and exhibition space will be provided. The exhibition will open on December, 10th. Upon the closure of the Workshop, each artist will receive two copies of the 2006 HIAW art collection and one DVD.

While sailing down the east coast of Taiwan in the 17th century, the Portuguese, astounded by the island’s pristine beauty, named it Formosa, “the beautiful island”. The city of Hualien is located just north of the East Coast National Scenic Area, a region rich in history, culture and nature. The Amis were the first people to settle on Taiwan. They are renown for their traditional celebrations throughout the year. We will be spending two days as their guests in the charming village of Shihtiping,

Agenda

All the artists and staff will work in the old winery for 15 days, from November 25th to 10th December. The exhibition will last for one month, starting December10th. During the residing period, artists will work independently as well as participate in the seminars and speeches in the evenings. Artists are encouraged to talk about their own art by showing slides, digital images, videotapes, or DVDs. We have also invited other artists, curators, critics, and performers to join our seminars. One evening is reserved for a fun-filled evening partying with the Amis. Their dancers and drummers, will keep us frolicing into the wee hours of the night. During the workshop, volunteers will assist artists in locating any materials they might need for their projects. All equipment; videos, computers, wood and stone caving machines, even bicycles will be provided at no charge.

Funding

Funding for this workshop comes from The Taiwan Council for Cultural Affairs the Executive Yuan, local government, and local sponsors. The workshops will provide round-trip airfare, medical insurance, food and accommodation, and transportation between Taipei and Hualien,. Each participant will also be allotted 200US$ to cover working expenses.

In December, temperatures range from ten to twenty degrees, and can be quite damp so don’t forget to bring some warm clothes.
